Pakistan Rangers Open Fire At Jammu International Border

Jammu: Tensions escalated along the Jammu International Border on Wednesday as Pakistan Rangers initiated firing at the Border Security Force posts in the Makwal area of Jammu. The exchange of fire is ongoing, with the BSF responding with effective retaliation. Pakistani forces initiated cross-border firing from their territory, targeting the BSF BOP (Border Outpost), with 13 Chenab Rangers of Pakistan involved in the incident. The situation remains volatile as both sides remain engaged in border aggression.

Sources in the Border Security Force told the Republic that the firing started at around 5.45 PM Wednesday evening as an unprovoked aggression from the Pakistani side. A heavy exchange of fire took place for over 25 minutes between the two sides, followed by a small firing.

Earlier, on 17 January, a Pakistani infiltrator was apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the Jammu International Border. The 20-year-old individual, identified as Muhammad Saqib, was caught near the Makwal border in Jammu. The apprehended Pakistan National  – a native of the Khas area in the Bahawalpur district of Pakistan – was living in the Korpur area of the Sialkot district in Pakistan.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police had booked the Pakistani intruder nabbed by the Border Security Force under section 14A of The Foreigners Act, 1946. 

The BSF recovered Pakistani currency notes of 50, 20 and 02 denominations, along with Pakistani national identity cards. Additionally, a Chinese push-button mobile phone with a Jazz SIM card was also confiscated. 

The recovered belongings also included a belt resembling a sewing machine, a plucker, and a pen-drive. The pen-drive, which was drenched in water, will be sent for forensic analysis.
