Who is Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Maharaja Ranjit Singh who was an exemplary and strong Sikh ruler, successfully repelled many Afghan attacks in Punjab and protected country from invasion.  

Maharaja Ranjit Singh, often referred to as 'Lion of Punjab ,' was founder and first ruler of Sikh Empire, which he established in early 19th century.  Despite losing sight in one eye due to smallpox in his childhood, Ranjit Singh h formidable leer and military strategist, and consolidated a large Sikh empire and challenged much stronger Afghans and fought British expansion. His ministration included people from various religious backgrounds, including Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, and Europeans.
