Opposition urges Om Birla to expunge BJP MP's statement on NewsClick

Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "Yesterday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey made baseless statements on Congress party and Rahul Gandhi in the House and used abusive language...As per the rules, our party and like-minded Opposition parties wrote to the Speaker because no such allegations can be levelled against a Member who are not given notice earlier." 

"We also met the Speaker for the same. Our complaint was considered and such petty statements were removed from the records. We were satisfied. But surprisingly, all the issues raised by him on which we took an objection were uploaded in the record once again overnight...This has never happened in the Parliamentary history," he added.

TMC MP in Rajya Sabha Derek O'Brien was suspended for the remainder of the current Parliament session "for unruly behaviour unbecoming of a Member of Rajya Sabha." Allocated time schedule for No-Confidence motion discussion in Lok Sabha

The allocated time for the discussion on the No-Confidence Motion in the Lok Sabha has been organised into a comprehensive schedule. According to sources, a total of 12 hours have been earmarked for this discourse, spanning over two days.

The breakdown of time allotments for various parties is as follows:

  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 6 hours and 41 minutes
  • Indian National Congress: 1 hour and 9 minutes
  • Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK): 30 minutes
  • Trinamool Congress (TMC): 30 minutes
  • Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP): 29 minutes
  • Shiv Sena: 24 minutes
  • Janata Dal-United (JDU): 21 minutes
  • Biju Janata Dal (BJD): 16 minutes
  • Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP): 12 minutes
  • Bhartiya Rashtrawadi Samanata Party (BRS): 12 minutes
  • Lok Janshakti Party (LJSP): 8 minutes

The remaining time has been allocated as follows:

  • Pro-NDA parties and Independent MPs: 17 minutes, encompassing parties like AIADMK, AJSU, MNF, NPP, and SKM.
  • Collectively, parties including Samajwadi Party (SP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS), Shiromani Akali Dal, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been granted a total of 52 minutes.

During a recent gathering of the BJP Parliamentary Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly remarked, as relayed by an insider source, that the Opposition's move to table a No Confidence Motion is emblematic of their prevailing scepticism. PM Modi was quoted as saying, "Opposition is full of distrust and to show this, they have brought No Confidence Motion... A few people had said that the voting in Rajya Sabha will be semifinal ahead of 2024." The PM thanked the MPs who congratulated him for this 'semifinal' win.

Rajnath Singh to move key defence bill in Rajya Sabha

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will move the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Bill, 2023 in Rajya Sabha today. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 4.

The Bill seeks to empower the Commander-in-Chief or the Officer-in Command of Inter-services Organisations in respect of service personnel who are subject to the Air Force Act, 1950, the Army Act, 1950 and the Navy Act, 1957, who are serving under or attached to his command for the maintenance of discipline and proper discharge of their duties.
