People should bear traffic restrictions as it is matter of Amarnath pilgrims' safety: J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday said the people of Kashmir should bear the restrictions on civilian traffic on a stretch of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for the Amarnath Yatra as it was a matter of pilgrims' security.

He was visiting 'yatri niwas' at Panthachowk here to take stock of arrangements for pilgrims.

"This is being done for ir (yatris) security and people should bear it. In our state, in western Uttar Presh, when Kanwar yatra starts, vehicle plies on highway for a month and one complains," Malik told reporters here.

"Here, traffic is stopped for two hours and a hue and cry is being raised... People kw what has happened on highway," he said, referring to February 14 attack on highway at Lethpora in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
Asked about tourism players' concern that restrictions were affecting tourism in valley, Malik said re was impact on it.

"re is impact on tourism. Gulmarg is full. People have to be stopped (from going) re, re is place," he said.
goverr said pilgrims, with whom he interacted, were happy and satisfied about arrangements for annual yatra which began on July 1.

“My satisfaction does t matter. people here are satisfied. y are very happy and satisfied about security and or arrangements for yatra,” he said.
Malik said pilgrim would t have been possible without support of Muslims of valley.
“ people of Kashmir conduct yatra and majority areas are of Muslims without whom yatra is t possible… people think of yatra as ir own and make it successful every time,” he said.
