PM hails J&K, Ladakh voters in local tongues on historic voter turnout

Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Block Development Council (BDC) elections which were conducted in Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi has again reiterated his message in three different languages which are Urdu, Punjabi and Ladakhi which is usually written with the Tibetan script. Successful BDC polls
BDC elections were held on Thursday, which was followed by the declaration of results in the evening. While independent candidates won 217 seats, BJP and Congress candidates won 81 seats and one seat respectively. On the other hand, the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party won 8 seats. There were 26,629 electors in total across the 22 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the J&K Electoral Officer, Shailendra Kumar, no untoward incident was reported. In fact, voter turnout was as high as 98.3% with Srinagar recording a 100% turnout. This election was held using the ballot boxes. However, parties such as the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) boycotted the polls.
