PM Modi calls PM-WANI scheme 'historic', says 'will strengthen Digital India Mission'

Calling clearing of PM-WANI scheme 'historic', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that scheme would 'revolutionize tech world', significantly improving WiFi availability across length and breth of India. He ded that through scheme, WiFi would be easily accessible to small shopkeepers, youth, and ors which would furr 'Ease of Doing Business' and 'Ease of Living'.

On Wednesday, Union Cabinet approved PM-WANI- a key scheme in telecom sector to expand internet cover across length and breth of country. Elaborating on anuncement, Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Pras stated that Prime Minister WiFi Access Network Interface was an extension of Centre's vision of digital empowerment. scheme entails public data offices that will acquire public WiFi services through data service providers.

"Today, first important decision is PM-WANI- Prime Minister WiFi Access Network Interface. It is an extraordinarily important step to unleash a WiFi revolution in country. This will be a public WiFi system. We will first open a public data office. For public data office, re is license, registration, or fee. We have 3.45 lakh public service centres who provide digital services in vills. y can come up overnight on this."

Once auntication is done, a person can access WiFi anywhere in country. According to Pras, this will ensure that crores of people can access internet services under ambit of this scheme. "Public Data centres can acquire internet services through data service providers and ors. Public Data Aggregator will deal with accounting of Public Data Office. You can downlo an App that will be available on AppStore which will facilitate auntication. We will also keep it on website. We will provide links. reafter, you can acquire WiFi from any PDO. From vill to vill, WiFI will be available. Crores of people can access it," he ded.
