PM Modi chairs Tokyo Olympics preparation meeting with Sports Ministry officials

On vember 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting with Sports Ministry officials over India's preparation for upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics at his residence. meeting was attended by sports Secretary, Director General of Sports Authority of India (SAI), and CEO of Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS). Various new schemes were discussed including 'One State One Game Principle' policy and inclusion of corporate sector in sports to uplift athletes' condition.

'One State One Game Principle'

During meeting, it was decided that 'One State One Game Principle' would be examined by States and its modalities will also be worked out. aim would be to make one state proficient in a single sport in which it possesses special aptitude and to work towards getting an Olympic gold medal in same. Also, Children from or states wishing to compete in that sport may also be sent to this particular State.

Providing a solution for this, Sports Ministry may examine records of performance of players and medals received by each State in last 20 years. y should actively eng with Indian diaspora in and around Tokyo to work on principle of 'One Family One Player' whereby one Indian family from diaspora can opt one player from team during his/her stay in Tokyo.

ditionally, Business houses and possibility of one of m aligning with and taking promotion of a particular sport for Olympics in such a way that sports get linked to prestige of company. In return, players for that sport may be allowed to wear colours of Industrial and Business house. Under Guru Shishya Parampara, Department of Sports should have an online portal on which all Coaches (Gurus) could register mselves with details of ir students (Shishyas), with or necessary details.

Department of sports will also prepare a database of global players of Indian origin, within 2 months. Making it a me of any Pravaasi Bharatiya Diwas may be examined by Department. In dition, organizing a global sports event/competition of se sportspersons of Indian origin may also be examined.
