Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar in a tweet said, "A strong historical and cultural connect. PM @narendramodi h a good conversation with host of @ASEAN2019TH, Thai PM @prayutofficial on stepping up our bilateral cooperation through connectivity, tre & investment, defence and security, among or areas."

Avenues for better bilateral cooperation
According to an official statement, during meeting, both leers reviewed progress me in bilateral relationship and ted that frequent high-level meetings and exchanges at all levels have created positive momentum in relationship. Both sides agreed to explore opportunities for cooperation in defence industries sector ting enhanced engment in defence and security fields. PM Modi and PM Chan-o-cha also lauded 20% growth in bilateral tre last year.

Prime Minister Modi thanked Thai Prime Minister for invitation extended to him to attend ASEAN related meetings, and also congratulated him on his leership as Chair of ASEAN. He positively assessed contribution of Thailand as Country Coordinator for India-ASEAN Strategic Partnership for furr strengning this relationship.

"India and Thailand are close maritime neighbours having historical and cultural links. In contemporary context, India's 'Act East' policy is complimented by Thailand's 'Look West' policy which has me relationship deep, robust and multifaceted," a statement said. Earlier, PM Modi, while dressing 16th India-ASEAN summit, said that South East Asian group is at core of India's Act East Policy.
