PM Modi lashes out at Pinarayi Vijayan government over Sabarimala row, says 'cultural ethos of Kerala is under attack'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday slammed the CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in Kerala and said that the Sabarimala issue had shown to the people of the country how the communist government was trying to disrespect the culture of the state.

Stating that the opposition parties could talk ill of him as much as they wanted, PM Modi urged the Opposition to not mislead the farmers. He also added that the opposition should not create hurdles in opportunities for the youth.

"Sabarimala got the attention of the entire nation. The people of India have seen how the communist government was trying to disrespect the culture of Kerala. Why is the government undermining the culture of the state? Unfortunately, the cultural ethos of Kerala is under attack. It's been done by a party which is governing the state," PM Modi said while addressing the gathering at a Yuva Morcha meet in Kerala's Thrissur district.

In another attack on the Kerala government over the Sabarimala issue, PM Modi said the state government’s management in the matter will be considered as “one of the most shameful act”, while speaking at Kollam on January 15. 

Earlier breaking his silence on the issue, PM Modi, during the first interview of 2019 with Smita Prakash, editor of news agency ANI, spoke on the questions pertaining to the crisis that shook Kerala over the entry of younger women in the Sabarimala Temple. 

"India is of one opinion that everyone should get justice. There are some temples, which have their own traditions, where men can't go. And men don't go... In this, Sabarimala, a woman judge in the Supreme Court has made certain observations. It needs to be read minutely. There is no need to attribute those to any political party. As a woman, she has made some suggestions. There should be a debate on that as well sometimes," he had said.
