PM Modi likely to attend UN General Assembly meet at the US in September: Report

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the US in September for the upcoming UN general assembly meeting and is likely to address Indian-Americans in Houston during his trip, community leaders said Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit US in September for upcoming UN general assembly meeting and is likely to dress Indian-Americans in Houston during his trip, community leers said Friday.  

Chicago and Houston are two American cities in contention for Prime Minister's venue to dress diaspora when he is likely to travel to US later this year to attend United Nations' Annual General Assembly in New York.

official anuncement about trip has been me yet. According to informed community sources, Prime Minister is likely to travel to New York from Houston to dress a special meeting of UN on climate change on September 23. 

Community leers said that dates for Prime Minister's dress are t final yet, but y have been asked to make preparations for a potential dress of Modi in Houston on September 22.

Houston is energy capital of world. Energy security is a priority area for Prime Minister.

This would be Modi's third major dress to Indian-American community after he became Prime Minister in 2014. previous two being at Mison Square Garden in New York in 2014 and Silicon Valley in 2016. Both events were attended by more than 20,000 people. 

While planning for proposed Houston event is yet to kick off, community leers are looking at multipurpose NRG Stium, which has a seating capacity of 70,000 people.

Houston has one of largest concentrations of Indian American community in US. Texas Goverr and Mayor of Houston h visited India last year.

Former Texas Goverr Rick Perry, who is w Energy Secretary, has a close affinity with India and Indian Americans.
