PM Modi Meets Kishida at the Sidelines of G7 Summit, Discusses Mumbai-Ahmedabad Rail Project
PM Modi also met US President Biden, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, French President Macron and UK PM Sunak among others at the sidelines of G7 Summit.

New Delhi: At the sidelines of G7 Summit, which was held under the presidency of Italy, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Japan's PM Fumio Kishida. The two leaders discussed the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project with a targeted 5 trillion yen worth of investment in India. The two leaders, as they met on the sidelines of G7, expressed satisfaction over the increasing strategic and global partnership between the two countries.
PM Modi also thanked Kishida for extending congratulatory wishes on assuming office for the third consecutive term and affirmed that bilateral ties with Japan will continue to receive priority in his third term, said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement.
"India and Japan are collaborating on several important areas, including the landmark Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project that will usher in the next stage in mobility in India, the targeted 5 trillion yen worth of Japanese investment in India in the 2022-2027 period, and the India-Japan Industrial Competitiveness Partnership aimed at the transformation of our manufacturing cooperation," the MEA's statement said.
Sharing images from the meeting, PM Modi asserted that strong ties between the two countries are important for “a peaceful, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific”. “It was a delight to meet PM Kishida on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy. Strong ties between India and Japan are important for a peaceful, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Our nations look forward to working together in defence, technology, semiconductors, clean energy and digital technology. We also wish to advance ties in infrastructure and cultural linkages,” said the Prime Minister in a post on X.
Apart from Kishida, PM Modi also met US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Macron, British Prime Minister Sunak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, Pope Francis on the sidelines of G7 Summit.
