PM Modi and former President Pranab Mukherjee have always talked about sharing a warm relationship, with the former crediting the latter for help and counsel when he had first moved to New Delhi after assuming the Prime Minister's post, and the Modi government also just a few months earlier bestowing the Bharat Ratna on the senior Congress leader.

PM Modi has met a number of senior statesmen of Indian politics since the election results on May 23. On the day after the results, he had met with BJP veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi.
