Ahead of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 550th birth anniversary celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday offered his prayers at Ber Sahib Gurudwara in Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab. After the Prime Minister offered his prayers at the Gurudwara, he was garlanded with a sacred 'chadar'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to his official Twitter handle and stated that he had a "blessed morning" at the Ber Sahib Gurudwara.

Along with PM Modi, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Union Minister Harsimrat Badal also visited the Ber Sahib Gurudwara. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the  Kartarpur Corridor in Gurdaspur district later today. The 4.7-kilometre-long Kartarpur Corridor will connect the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur with the Gurdwara Kartarpur Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

PM Modi to flag off the first batch of pilgrims

Prime Minister Modi will also flag off the first batch of 500 Indian pilgrims. The first batch of pilgrims will include former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and her husband and SAD chief Sukhbir Badal and various other ministers. The MPs and MLAs from Punjab will travel to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib through the Kartarpur Corridor. Giani Harpreet Singh, the Jath leader of Akal Takht, will lead the Indian delegation as the religious leader. The first  'jatha' of Sikh pilgrims from India has already reached  Pakistan through the Kartarpur Corridor. On the other hand, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor route from Pakistan.

Ceremonies at the other side of the border 

The two nations are set to hold separate ceremonies on either side of the border to inaugurate the passage that will grant Indian pilgrims access to the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, who passed away at the start of the 16th century.
