PM Modi pays homage to World War 1 Indian soldiers, marking a century since the great war ended

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 11 paid honours to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I and said the country reiterates its commitment towards world peace so that the trail of death and destruction caused by wars does not befall.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on vember 11 paid hours to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I and said country reiterates its commitment towards world peace so that trail of death and destruction caused by wars does t befall.

"Today, as we mark one hundred years since end of horrific First World War, we reiterate our commitment towards world peace and pledge to work to furr an atmosphere of harmony and brorhood so that trail of death and destruction caused by wars does t occur," he said in a series of tweets.

He said India remembers its brave soldiers who fought in WW I. 

"This was a war in which India was t directly involved yet our soldiers fought world over, just for cause of peace," prime minister said.

Modi recollected that he h hour of paying tributes at Neuve-Chapelle Memorial in France and at memorial in Israel's Haifa, places associated with India's role in World War I.

"When (Israel) PM Benjamin Netanyahu came to India, we paid tributes at Teen Murti-Haifa Chowk", Prime Minister said

Marking a century since end of World War 1, a commemoration ceremony was held in New Delhi earlier today. 

History has fed memories of India’s role in World War I, where approximately 1.3 million Indian soldiers fought war, over 74,000 lost ir lives and a comparable number injured. Constrained by imperialism, nation was pitchforked into a war in unkwn lands, under harsh climates fighting unfamiliar enemies.

Contributing in abundance in terms of material and manpower, India fought for oppressive British empire against Germans in Europe, Mediterranean, Mesopotamian, East Africa and rth Africa.
