New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set for his first visit to Varanasi today (Tuesday) after winning the Lok Sabha constituency. During his visit, the Prime Minister will distribute the 17th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme, under which over 9.26 crore farmers will receive more than Rs 20,000 crore in benefits. In the event, he will also release certificates to over 30,000 SHGs trained as Krishi Sakhis, who will work as para extension workers.
PM Modi will likely be accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Governor Anandiben Patel and other state ministers.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Monday said that over 2.5 crore farmers will participate in the event, including 732 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 5 lakh Common Service Centres nationwide, and over 1 lakh Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies.
"On the 50 selected Krishi Vikas Kendras (KVKs), a special event is being organized where a good number of farmers will join the event. On these centres, several Union Ministers will also visit and interact with the farmers," it said in a statement.
PM Modi in Varanasi: Full Schedule
As per media reports, Prime Minister Modi's visit is likely to last for 4 to 4.5 hours.
PM Modi will land at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur in the evening at 4 pm. He will then head to attend the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan around 5 pm, where he will release the instalments of Samman Nidhi which will benefit over 7.75 lakh farmers in the region.
At 7 pm he will attend the Ganga Aarti at Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat and then visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple at 8 pm. Currently, preparations are underway at the temple.
In the recent general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi won the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency by over 1.50 lakh votes. Defeating Congress' Ajay Rai and BSP's Ather Jamal Lari, PM Modi secured his third term. It is to be noted that Varanasi has been a stronghold for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1991, winning the constituency seven times out of eight, with its only loss occurring in 2004 to Congress's Rajesh Kumar Mishra.
In 2014, Prime Minister Modi contested from Varanasi for the first time, securing a significant victory by 3.72 lakh votes or 56.37 per cent of the vote share, defeating AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal.
