PM Modi sanctions grant of Rs 30 lakh for treatment of girl suffering from Aplastic anemia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned a grant of Rs 30 lakh for the treatment of Lalit, a girl suffering from Aplastic anemia. This development came after her father wrote a letter to PM Modi seeking help for her treatment. 

"I want the government to help my daughter in getting the treatment. I have sold my land. My house is mortgaged. I have spent Rs 7 lakh on her treatment already. If she cannot be cured, I wished to die," Sumer Singh told ANI.

Responding to Singh's plea, Modi's office released the money from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

"A hospital in Jaipur told me that she needed a bone marrow transplant from her brother to survive as hers had completely become useless. They told me the operation alone would cost around Rs 10 lakh," the father of the girl said.

Currently, under the Chairmanship of PM Modi, the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) was initiated provides financial support to people who are undergoing medical treatment like heart surgeries, kidney transplantation, cancer treatment and acid attack. It further helps in immediate financial relief to families of those killed in natural calamities like floods, cyclones and earthquake and also to the victims of the major accidents and riots.

The funds do not get any budgetary support and it consists entirely of public contributions.

Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when the body stops producing enough new blood cells. Aplastic anemia leaves a person at higher risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding. Aplastic anemia may occur suddenly, or it can occur slowly and get worse over a long period of time. The main symptoms of this disease are fatigue, shortness of breath with exertion, rapid or irregular heart rate, pale skin, frequent or prolonged infections, unexplained or easy bruising, nosebleeds and bleeding gums, prolonged bleeding from cuts, skin rash, dizziness and headache.
