PM Modi Stresses ‘Democracy First, Humanity First’ Mantra at Special Session of Guyana Parliament

Prime Minister Narendra Modi , while addressing the special session of the Parliament of Guyana, stressed the need to prioritise democracy in order to build an inclusive society, saying that there is no greater tool than democracy for building an inclusive society. PM Modi pressed for humanity's first philosophy while drawing a directly proportional link with democracy, during his address saying that the strongest mantra for moving forward before the world is, ‘Democracy First, Humanity First’.
Prime Minister Modi said at the Guyana Parliament, “There is no greater medium than democracy to create an inclusive society. Democracy is in our DNA, in our vision, and in our behaviour. So when it came to uniting the world, India gave the mantra of one earth, one family, one future during its G20 Presidency.”

“When the Corona crisis came, a challenge came before the entire humanity, then India gave the message of one earth, one health,” the prime minister said.
“Today India is fulfilling its duty towards the world as a ‘Vishwa Bandu’. Whenever a problem arises globally, India steps in as a first responder. During the chaos of COVID-19, every country was trying to save itself. At that juncture, India shared medicines and vaccines with more than 150 countries,” the PM stated.

He reiterated India’s stance amidst the ongoing conflict in the war, including that of Ukraine and the Middle East, saying the time is not for conflict, but to identify the conditions that create conflict and remove them. “This is not a time for conflict for the world; this is the time to identify the conditions that create conflict and remove them. Today there are so many challenges like terrorism, drugs, and cybercrime. To shape a better future for the coming generations, we must confront these issues head-on. This can only be achieved by prioritizing ‘Democracy First, Humanity First’,” PM Modi asserted.
PM Modi further added, “We have never moved forward with the spirit of expansionism. We have always stayed away from the spirit of capturing resources, grabbing resources.”

“Today India stands in favour of global development in every way and stands in favour of peace. With this feeling, today India has also become the voice of the Global South. During the G20 Summit, India made women-led development a major agenda,” the Indian PM stated.
Highlighting that, in the 21st century, women will play a pivotal role in ensuring global prosperity, PM Narendra Modi noted, “In India, we have launched a major campaign to give leadership roles to women in every sector, at every level. Today women are coming forward in every sector in India. Out of all the pilots in the whole world, only 5 percent are women, whereas, in India, 15 percent of the pilots are women.”
