PM Modi Thanks Sudha Murty in Rajya Sabha

While talking about women empowerment and women-led development currently and the past ten years, PM Modi extended a special thanks to Sudha Murty, a Rajya Sabha member for her important speech in the Upper House. PM Modi has thanked the philanthropist for highlighting key issues with respect to women health.

PM Modi also appreciated the educator and author for not just highlighting the issue of cervical cancer vaccine but also explaining the problems and the solutions related to it. The Prime Minister also mentioned the emotional aspect of Sudha Murty's speech where she said that once a mother dies, no one can get her back, nothing can be done about that.

Sudha Murty On Govt-Sponsored Cervical Cancer Vaccine Programme

Sudha Murty raised two issues during her maiden Rajya Sabha speech which were a government-backed cervical cancer vaccine programme and promotion of domestic tourism. In her speech, Sudha Murty said, "There is a vaccination which is given to girls, between the age of nine to 14, known as a cervical vaccination. If the girls take that, it (cancer) can be avoided... we should promote vaccination for the benefit of our girls because prevention is better than cure."

Explaining how it would benefit women, she further said, “It is not expensive. Today it is ₹1,400 for people like me who are in the field. If the government intervenes and negotiates...you can bring it to ₹700-800. We have such a large population. It will be beneficial for our girls in future.”

PM Modi also highlighted the government's focus on women, its contribution towards women-led development across all sectors and the various programmes launched for them.
