PM Modi to leave for Brazil to attend 11th BRICS Summit on Nov 13-14
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended his first BRICS Summit at Fortaleza in Brazil in 2014, will be participating in the Summit for the sixth time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 2019 BRICS Summit in Brazil scheduled for November 13-14. Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter saying he looks forward to holding discussions with BRICS leaders on ‘greater cooperation in a wide range of areas’.
Bilateral meetings with Putin and Jinping
Prime Minister Modi, who attended his first BRICS Summit at Fortaleza in Brazil in 2014, will be participating in the Summit for the sixth time. PM Modi will also hold separate bilateral meetings with the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Chinese Premier Xi Jinping on November 13 at 2.00 pm (local time) and 3.45 pm (local time) respectively. He will address the BRICS economic forum and will interact with BRICS Business Council as well as the New Development Bank (NDB), a bank established by the BRICS member states.

BRICS Business Forum closing ceremony will be held at the International Convention Centre of Brazil at 5.25 pm (local time) on November 13. It will be followed by Cultural Presentation and a welcome dinner hosted by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro at 8.00 pm (local time) and 8.30 pm (local time) respectively.

Strengthening trade, defence, agriculture and energy
Prime Minister said that the visit to Brazil will give him an opportunity to hold talks with President Jair Bolsonaro on ways to deepen the India-Brazil strategic partnership. He will hold the meeting with Bolsonaro at 3.00 pm (local time) on November 13.
“There is great potential in sectors like trade, defence, agriculture and energy,” PM Modi added. He said that improving economic linkages augur well for the BRICS nations.

The discussions in the closed session are expected to be focused on challenges and opportunities for the exercise of national sovereignty in the contemporary world.
The session will be followed by the BRICS Plenary Session where the leaders will discuss the intra-BRICS cooperation for the economic development of BRICS societies. A BRICS Memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Trade and Investment Promotion agencies will also be signed and a joint declaration will be issued by the summit leaders.

A significant influence on regional affairs
BRICS, an association of five major emerging national economies (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), comprises 42 per cent of the world’s population, 23 per cent of the Global GDP and around 17 per cent of the share in world trade. This year’s theme for BRICS Summit is ‘Economic growth for an innovative future.’
