President Ram Nath Kovind lauds Mahendra Singh Dhoni
President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday praised Mahendra Singh Dhoni saying that he brought Ranchi in spotlight in world of cricket. "Jaipal Singh Munda of Jharkhand was captain of India's hockey team that won first gold medal in 1928 Olympic Games. He was also a member of Constituent Assembly. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has brought fame to Ranchi in world of cricket. entire country is proud of Jharkhand's daughter Deepika Kumari," Kovind wrote in Hindi.

President Ram Nath Kovind's visit to Jharkhand
President attended 33rd convocation of Ranchi University in Jharkhand, where he praised state's sportspeople like Munda, Dhoni and Kumari. President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday called upon students to use modern techlogy and become job creators. Addressing 33rd convocation of Ranchi University here, Kovind said, wadays youth have access to modern techlogy that leads to many new opportunities. "Our previous generations did t have those facilities," he said. Mentioning that Centre and state governments are giving fillip to employment (opportunities), Kovind urged students to fully utilise opportunities. "Jharkhand has several tourist places and quality educational institutions. state has many specialities and on basis of talent of people like you (students), new dimensions can be set for development," he said.

President Kovind address 3,000 students
Jharkhand possesses t only 40 per cent of country's minerals but also has substantial human resources, Kovind said. "I can say to Chief Minister Raghubar Das that your state is full of natural resources. It also has one of largest human resource repositories," Kovind said, congratulating about 3,000 students who were awarded degrees at convocation. He appreciated university for starting 'Jan Jati and Khetriya Bhasa Vibhag' (Tribal and regional langus department), for teaching five tribal langus---Kuduk, Ho, Mundari, Santhali and Khadia.
President hails freedom fighter Birsa Munda
President also recalled role of Birsa Munda who spearheaded an uprising against British in Chota Nagpur region in early 19th century. "Birsa Munda, whom we refer to as 'Bhagwaan', was one of greatest freedom fighters from this region, and a source of inspiration t only for Jharkhand but for entire nation," he said. He also recalled contributions of or tribal icons like Sidho-Kanho, Jatra Tana Bhagat and Chand-Bhairov, and appreciated role of Tana Bhagats, who followed path of Mahatma Gandhis n-violence during freedom movement. President said that one should learn from tribals how to live in harmony with nature. Presenting gold medals to 11 of 56 gold medalists, Kovind said in a lighter vein, "I told a girl that I envy her for getting gold medal for LLM (Masters in Law) while I am only LLB."
