PM Narendra Modi to hold bilaterals with Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of G20 in Japan. Here’s what is on the agenda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address important issues at the global level at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan on 28 and 29 June, holding ten bilateral talks with leaders of various nations including Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron.  

PM Modi will be in talks with US President Donald Trump for the first time since the former took assumed the office of Prime Minister for the second time after the May 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Amid a lot of issues including terrorism, sanctions imposed by the US, and matters that will strengthen the strategic ties between the two countries, the meeting is said to garner a lot of attention. 

There will be four sessions as a part of the summit namely global economy, trade and investment, innovation in the digital economy and artificial intelligence. Other topics will include free trade and economic growth, including taxation, finance, inclusive and sustainable world, energy and environment, society quality infrastructure, global health, aging, climate change, and marine plastic waste.

Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu will also play a crucial role at the summit as he would be attending important meetings with the top economies of the world. India is expected to raise important issues relating to fugitive economic offenders and terrorism and will vociferously voice its concerns to bring about a solution. He is touted to be India's Sherpa at the meet.    

During the two-day summit, there will also be a meeting with leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa (BRICS) and Russia-India-China (RIC).

In 2018 G20 Summit, PM Modi had held several bilateral engagements, including meetings with Saudi Crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping German Chancellor Angela and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Besides India, other participants are European Union, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Republic of South Africa, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
