Srinagar: In a bold statement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath exuded confidence that Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK) will soon be reintegrated with Jammu and Kashmir. “After BJP ’s return (to power) here, Pakistan -occupied Kashmir is also going to be a part of Jammu and Kashmir. And this is the commotion in Pakistan, they are struggling to save their democracy...On one side there is India and on the other side there is Pakistan, there is a shortage of food there, naturally, beggar Pakistan is not able to handle itself today. Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is raising its voice for separation from it. It says that we also had the right to participate in the J&K elections. Balochistan is saying that our chemistry does not match that of Pakistan. Because Pakistan is the enemy of humanity, it is a cancer of humanity. The world must be freed from this cancer”, said the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister while addressing a rally in J&K.
Adityanath pointed out that the high voter turnout in the region is a clear indication of the people's preference for a democratic government. He suggested that this political shift signals the end of family-based and divisive politics, which have historically dominated the region. He attributed this change in sentiment to the people’s desire for stability, development, and a peaceful future under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ).
"The message that has been sent to the world through the elections here is undeniable. The massive number of voters stepping out to vote shows their inclination toward democracy and their rejection of misleading narratives spread internationally, particularly by figures like Rahul Gandhi ," said Adityanath.
He reiterated that the peaceful conduct of the elections, along with the strong voter participation, reflects the people's trust in democratic processes and their desire for BJP ’s return to power in the region. He further emphasized his belief that the reintegration of PoK into Jammu and Kashmir is an inevitable part of this political transformation.
The second phase of polling in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections saw a voter turnout of over 56 per cent on Wednesday, with the democratic exercise passing off peacefully amid tight security.
While there was significant participation in key constituencies in 26 seats spread over six districts with long queues of voters at polling stations since early morning, 20 of these segments recorded a marginally lower turnout than in the 2014 assembly elections, when the overall voting was 60 per cent.
The first phase of polling, held on September 18, saw an estimated 61.38 per cent voter turnout, while the final phase is set to take place on October 1 in the crucial elections being held after 10 years.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer P.K. Pole announced a preliminary turnout figure of 56.05 per cent, stating that it might change as polling continued in some areas, including Hazratbal and Reasi.
