Police Encounter: Two history sheeters shot dead in Kancheepuram, officers injured

"In an early morning operation, Kancheepuram Police encounter two wanted criminals, leaving both dead.

Chennai: The history sheeters who have been on the run have been hunted down by the Kancheepuram Police in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Tamil Nadu Police have been on a n operation to remove the rowdies who have history of offences in the areas of Chennai, Tambaram, Avadi, Sriperumbudur etc in the recent days. There have been several arrested made under the Goondas act in the past few days.

At times when necessary, encounters are also being unleashed in an effort to reduce the rowdies and anti social activities that are a regular in the above mentioned places. With the police operation underway, history sheeters in these areas have also been alert and are hiding to avoid getting arrested.

A 40-years-old history sheeter Prabha alias Saravanan from Pallavamedu in Kancheepuram district was one of the most wanted criminal who has a list of offences such as murders, robberies, peddling of drugs etc to his name. Prabha is said to be a local area don in the Pallavarmedu area of Kancheepuram district and a regular at the local prison as well. Meanwhile, around 6 months ago when police tried to arrest Prabha in a case he had escaped and during the run chase he had injured his leg. Later, he was admitted to an hospital to undergo a surgery.

Prabha who was out on bail, had to appear before the Kancheepuram district court for the hearing of another case a gang who followed him in a car has tried to hit him. Though Prabha tried to run with his injured leg he couldn’t escape and was brutally hacked to death by the unknown miscreants.

Kancheepuram police who immediately rushed to the spot, registered a case and started an investigation. According to the Kancheepuram police it was a revenge murder. Police say that, “Prabha’s brother Narayan was brutally murdered by a rowdy called Raghu 10 years ago. To take revenge, Prabhu had then killed two of Raghu’s brothers. The revenge for the above mentioned deaths was taken by the gang by murdering Prabha”.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning the police received a tip off that these rowdies have been hiding in a spot near the new railway station. The police found their location and surrounded the goon men who were hiding in Indira nagar service road near the new railway station in Kancheepuram. It is said that as soon as they saw the policemen approaching, the rowdies attacked two policemen and tried to escape and that is when the police opened fire and two history sheeters were shot dead by the Kancheepuram police.

The injured police and the rowdies were immediately taken to the hospital. While the two history sheeters have been declared dead by the doctors, the two injured police officers are being treated for their injuries.

The Kancheepuram police in their official statement have stated that the two history shetters who were encountered are Raghu and Basha. The two police officers who were attacked are Special Sub inspector Ramalingam and a constable Sasi Kumar.
