Police Heighten Security in Haryana After Migrant Worker Lynched Over Beef-Eating Suspicion

The victim, identified as Sabir Malik, was a resident of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal and worked as a ragpicker in the area.

Charkhi Dadri (Haryana): Following the alleged beating and death of a migrant worker from West Bengal in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri district over suspicions of consuming beef, police have ramped up security in the area to prevent further unrest. Badhra Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bharat Bhushan told news agency ANI that both Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and state police personnel have been deployed in the district, and social media activity is being closely monitored.

"The victim, a resident of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, worked as a ragpicker here. We have deployed a company of SSB and state police and are continuously monitoring social media," Bhushan Said.

Two Beaten over Beef-Eating Suspicions, One Dies

According to DSP Bhushan, on August 27, police received information about some people in the slums of Hansawas Khurd village allegedly consuming prohibited meat. Samples of the meat were collected and sent to a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for testing, and further actions will depend on the lab results.

Bhushan explained that the incident escalated when the complainants, based on suspicion, visited other slums, where they kidnapped and assaulted two individuals. 

 "One person died and the other was injured badly," Bhusan added.

In response, police arrested seven suspects, identified as Abhishek, Ravinder, Mohit, Kamaljeet, and Sahil, along with two minors. Three of the suspects have been sent to judicial custody, while the remaining four are in police remand for further interrogation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "The investigation is ongoing, and the accused are being questioned while in remand," Kumar said.
