Chennai: In a massive crackdown, a team of 1,000 police personnel conducted a massive raid at the 500 residences near the SRM College in Kattankulathur resulting in recovery of ganja oil, ganja, hookah pots, hookah powder, and ganja chocolate.

According to police, 19 students pursuing studies at a private engineering college were detained.

Police said that a surprise check was carried out at the orders of Tambaram police commissioner, Abhin Dinesh Modak.

The officials added that they had received a tip that students pursuing studies at SRM College were in possession of contraband and drugs.

Based on the tip, the Drug Search Operation was organized and conducted by deputy commissioners of police from Tambaram, Pallikaranai, and traffic wings. Armed reserve wing women cops were also assigned to the search operation, as women students stayed in the houses.

Earlier this month, the City Police arrested three persons including a functionary of the Bharatiya Janata Party for hiding Ganja in his house near Pattalam.

A specialized police unit from the Pulianthope Deputy Commissioner's office was on patrol when they observed two individuals behaving suspiciously with a large parcel near K.C. Garden in Pattalam, Pulianthope. Upon investigation, the officers discovered over four kilograms of ganja. The two individuals were then taken to the Otteri Police Station
