Actor Siddharth terms Thackeray biopic as ‘propaganda’, adds ‘poetic justice’ that Nawaz is playing Bal Thackeray

The controversy around the highly-anticipated Bal Thackeray biopic 'Thackeray' was ratcheted up significantly on Thursday morning as actor Siddharth railed against the film on Twitter, accusing it of being a lot of things, including discriminatory against South Indians, a propaganda film, of constituting hate speech and more.

The controversy around the highly-anticipated Bal Thackeray biopic 'Thackeray' was ratcheted up significantly on Thursday morning as actor Siddharth railed against the film on Twitter, accusing it of being a lot of things, including discriminatory against South Indians, a propaganda film, of constituting hate speech and more.  

Siddharth also pointed out what he clearly sees as political irony in the fact that Nawazuddin Siddiqui gets to play the role of Bal Thackeray:

He has also drawn an election-link by using the hashtag #HappyElections, accusing the film of selling 'so much hate with such romance and heroism'

‘Thackeray’ has been directed by Abhijit Panse and written and produced by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Shrikant Bhasi along with Viacom Motion Pictures. The movie will hit the screens on January 25, two days after the birth anniversary of Bal Thackeray.

The film hit a bit of a stumbling block even before its release, with the CBFC objecting to three lines in the trailer. Additionally, the Shiv Sena has also warned that no other film should release on the same day -- something that is particularly worrisome for Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika.
