The controversy around the highly-anticipated Bal Thackeray biopic 'Thackeray' was ratcheted up significantly on Thursday morning as actor Siddharth railed against the film on Twitter, accusing it of being a lot of things, including discriminatory against South Indians, a propaganda film, of constituting hate speech and more.

‘Thackeray’ has been directed by Abhijit Panse and written and produced by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Shrikant Bhasi along with Viacom Motion Pictures. The movie will hit the screens on January 25, two days after the birth anniversary of Bal Thackeray.

The film hit a bit of a stumbling block even before its release, with the CBFC objecting to three lines in the trailer. Additionally, the Shiv Sena has also warned that no other film should release on the same day -- something that is particularly worrisome for Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika.
