After hurling 'demons' abuse at voters, Cong MP Surjewala takes 'Asur' barb at PM Modi

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala remained defiant Monday after abusing and insulting BJP voters and launched yet another attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that he is "not a ruler, but an asura". Stoking a fresh controversy earlier in the day, the Congress leader had said, "Those who vote for BJP and are BJP supporters are of 'raakshas' (demons) tendency. I curse from this land of Mahabharat." The Congress MP made the remarks while addressing a public rally in Haryana's Kaithal.

In a veiled attack at PM Modi, he said, "Who is not filled with compassion, who does not love the people? He is not a ruler, he is an asura. The one who does not love the farmer, the labourer and the youth." Surjewala added that emotion and sentiment in dialogue are more important than words, which only a sensitive person can understand.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to fire a salvo at the Congress leader over his 'derogatory' remark against PM Modi and the voters, with Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri saying that Surjewala has decided to remain in opposition always. 

'Where is Mohabbat Ki Dukaan?'

Taking a dig at the Congress, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "Are the crores of people who vote for BJP "raakshas"? What do Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi believe? Do you consider the public "raakshas"? BJP considers the public "bhagwan". I always say that Madhya Pradesh is my temple, the people who live there are my God and we are the worshippers of that God...You consider yourself a God. Is this your 'Mohabbat ki dukaan'?"\

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar also reacted to Surjewala's statement, calling it unparliamentary language. "Only a person born into a family of 'raakshas' (demons) tendency can think of using such indecent language. We will definitely take cognisance."

Congress abuse spree: Looking back 

As seen in the past, the Congress leaders on multiple occasions, used foul language while attacking PM Modi and his government. In 2007, ahead of the Gujarat Assembly polls, Sonia Gandhi called PM Modi a 'Maut ka saudagar' (someone who play with others' life). 

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar 2017 launched the 'neech' jibe at PM Modi, sparking outrage among the BJP cadres. The jibe, however, turned out to be a huge mistake for Congress as it helped PM Modi term Congress anti-poor and anti-backwards. In the most recent and headlining events, Rahul Gandhi reacted to PM Modi's 'Main Bhi Chowkidaar' campaign and said, 'chowkidar chor hai' (The guard is a thief).
