Four-time Meghalaya Chief Minister and senior Congress leer DD Lapang has tendered his resignation to party President Rahul Gandhi, citing 'senior problems' in party during his reign. Lapang, who has been associated with party since past four deces, dedicated a letter to senior-most leers of Congress party, including, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi as well as AICC secretary Vijay Laxmi Sho.
In first part of his resignation letter, Lapang praised his party and penned down his time with m. "I am gl that I have privilege to be in Congress for last four deces as an eminent member of Indian National Congress. During se years, I worked devotedly, leaving no stone unturned while performing my service for Party. As a true and discipline Congress man and always cooperates with AICC even to extend of accepted sacrifices for sake of unity and strength of party. In my mind, I have always been thinking that I should be with Congress for all times to come," his message re.

In letter, veteran politician expressed reason behind his departure, stating, "But lately, AICC has been embarking upon a policy of phasing senior and elderly people. In my opinion it means that ir service and a contribution of senior and elderly people is no longer useful to party. Since spirit and enthusiasm to work for people is still burning inside me, restriction me me frustrated and compelled me to be no longer comfortable to be in party. With my present age and health condition, I have decided to continue to serve country, my state and its people in same manner wherever I am.
"refore, reluctantly and with heavy heart, I would like to discontinue my dedication towards Congress party and I tender my resignation with immediate effect. Kindly consider this as my official resignation letter."

Lapang served as CM of Meghalaya on four different occasions, though, he never completed a full term. He first took oath in February 1992, but his stint ended just one year after. He n enjoyed a better second term, completing three years in office when he became CM in 2003 before problems in coalition government started to arise.
His final two terms as CM saw him hold post for just one year or less. In March 2007, he started his third term as CM of state, before stepping down in March 2008, having only 28 seats in assembly. And after becoming he for an astonishing fourth time in May 2009, he h to let go off his post in April 2010, failing to complete even 12 months.
