Ahead of Rajasthan trust vote, BSP again issues whip to 6 MLAs to vote against Congress

With a trust vote imminent in Rajasthan Assembly, BSP on Thursday again issued a whip to 6 MLAs elected on its ticket to vote against Congress party. MLAs in question- Sandeep Yav, Wajib Ali, Deepchand Kheria, Lakhan Meena, Jogendra Awana, and Rajendra Gudha joined Congress in September 2019. BSP national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra warned that aforesaid legislators could be disqualified for violating whip under para 2(1)(b) of tenth schedule of Constitution.

BJP and Congress push for trust vote
Earlier in day, BJP anunced that it would move a -confidence motion against Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan during Assembly session on Friday. Talking to media after BJP Legislative Party meeting, Leer of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria predicted that government was unlikely to last for a long time. Speaking at Congress Legislative Party meeting a few hours later, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot anunced that he would seek a vote of confidence in Assembly on Friday. meeting witnessed all 19 disgruntled MLAs including Sachin Pilot in attendance.
BSP fights a legal battle
BSP national leership has refused to accept merger of 6 BSP MLAs with Congress. On July 28, former Uttar Presh CM Mayawati lamented that Rajasthan CM h acted with a "malicious intent" despite BSP's unconditional support to Congress government after 2018 Assembly polls. According to her, BSP h been cheated by Congress on multiple occasions. Furrmore, she contended that Gehlot and Congress shall be responsible if Rajasthan government is reduced to a mirity.

Recently, BJP MLA Man Dilawar and BSP national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra moved Rajasthan High Court seeking a stay on BSP MLAs' merger with Congress. As hearing of matter remained inconclusive on Thursday, it will continue on Friday. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal concluded his argument for Assembly Speaker CP Joshi. ditionally, apex court has refused to interfere in matter at this st as Rajasthan HC is alrey hearing it. However, fate of 6 BSP-turned-Congress MLAs may t be crucial for survival of Rajasthan government after Pilot camp's return to Congress fold.
