Assam NRC: MHA says those excluded will receive adequate legal aid
The Ministry Of Home Affairs clarified on Monday that those individuals who have been not been included in the Assam NRC will avail adequate legal aid.

Ministry Of Home Affairs clarified on Monday that those individuals who have been t been included in Assam Nation Register of Citizens (NRC) list will be able to avail equate judicial process. individuals can appeal to Foreigners Tribunal within 120 days. ministry's statement said that 200 new Foreigner's Tribunal will be me functional from Monday, in dition to 100 tribunals that are alrey functional.

NRC list release
NRC list was published on August 31 and it is a register of Indian citizens living in Assam. list was released by Government of Assam but various arms of state and central government have been working on registry. As per NRC rules, any individual who cant prove that y or ir ancestors entered country before midnight of March 24, 1971 would be declared as a foreigner and can face deportation. first NRC list was compiled in 1951. list updated and released on Sunday included 3,11,21,004 individuals and excluded 19,06,657 individual.

Ministry on Monday said that those who have been excluded from list will t face immediate detention and will t face any consequences till all remedies available to m are exhausted. se individuals will continue to enjoy all rights y are granted under constitution of India and can purchase property, avail education and can be employed as well. It was also mentioned that, through District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), legal aid will be me available to those who are needy and Government of Assam has me all necessary arrangements for same. A statement me earlier also stated following, "Under provisions of Foreigners Act, 1946 and Foreigners (Tribunals) Order, 1964, only foreigners’ tribunals are empowered to declare a person foreigner. Thus, n-inclusion of a person's name in NRC does t by itself amount to him/her being declared as a foreigner". Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sowal also me a statement to pacify those who were excluded from list saying, " one should be worried. one should panic. Government is here to take care of everyone. Even those who will be excluded from final list will get eugh opportunity to prove ir Indian citizenship".
