Babul Supriyo claims 'Mamata Banerjee among frontrunners' to replace PM Modi in 2024
Earlier, TMC's party mouthpiece 'Jaago Bangla' had sparked a row after noting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a failure to rival Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Following his joining Trinamool Congress (TMC), former Bharatiya Janata Party MP Babul Supriyo said on Monday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is among top Prime Minister candidates. newest TMC member said that party supremo has qualities to replace Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that he wishes to see Banerjee takeover prime ministerial post in 2024.
"I want that captain of our party Mamata Banerjee becomes Prime Minister in 2024. Opposition plays an important role in a democratic system. Nobody can deny fact that Mamata Banerjee is among top frontrunners for prime ministerial post," Supriyo told ANI. This is not first time, TMC leers have hinted at Banerjee being a potential candidate for PM post.

Earlier, TMC's party mouthpiece 'Jaago Bangla' h sparked a row after it noted Congress leer Rahul Gandhi as a failure to rival Prime Minister Narendra Modi for post and opinionated that Banerjee should be frontrunner inste. “ country is seeking an alternative face. …Mamata Banerjee has been successful in emerging as an alternative face to PM Modi," story quoted TMC's Lok Sabha party leer Sudip Bandophyay as said.
Babul Supriyo justifies U-turn
Meanwhile, Supriyo, when asked about his switch to TMC, slammed his former party and said that re is resentment among leers. "I have not created any history by changing party. A horde of leers joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from or parties before West Bengal Assembly polls. re are resentments among old leers. BJP should ask m about ir resentments," former BJP MP said.

However, former Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change took a neutral stand when asked about ongoing investigation over post-poll violence in West Bengal. "Post-poll violence is not desirable. It is being proved. I want that compensation should be provided to people who were affected by post-poll violence," Supriyo said.
former BJP leer formally joined TMC on Saturday after quitting BJP following recent Union Cabinet reshuffle. Supriyo, who h earlier announced his retirement from politics in a Facebook post, took a U-turn on call and joined his former party’s rival in state. Speaking after joining TMC, Supriyo said that Mamata Banerjee's 'motivational words’ forced him to change his decision to quit politics. He h earlier said that he was leaving politics based on a difference of opinion between him and state BJP leers.
