Lashing out at the BJP and the media for reports of her displeasure at sloganeers shouting 'Jai Shri Ram' in West Bengal, the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, on Sunday took to Facebook to explain that each party has its own slogan and that she did not have any problem with any slogan.
"I have no problem, regarding any particular slogan of political parties in their rallies, and for their party purpose. Every political party has their own slogan. My party has Jai Hind, Vande Mataram. The Left has Inquilab Zindabad. Others have different slogans. We respect each other," she writes.
Accusing the BJP of using 'Jai Shri Ram' as its political slogan which originally belongs to the RSS, she has stated that the RSS will never be supported by West Bengal.
"BJP is using religious slogan Jai Sri Ram as their party slogan in a misconceived manner by way of mixing religion with politics. We do not respect this forcible enforcement of political slogans on others in the name of so-called RSS which Bengal never accepted," she adds.
Requesting action against such religious politics to divide and create unrest and chaos, she further writes that such tactics are counterproductive.
"This is high time that proper action is taken to restrain political workers not to indulge in activities of creating unrest, chaos, violence and disruption of normal life by taking recourse to misplaced ideologies in the so-called name of religion to create a divide among the people. If all other political parties start resorting to these sort of divisive and disruptive activities, then the entire environment would become highly vitiated and counterproductive," she writes.
Explaining her tryst to keep the secular character of the country intact, she adds:
"We have to and would oppose such moves of BJP very strongly in order to keep the secular character of the country as enshrined in our constitution."
Here is her Facebook post:
Earlier in the day, sources reported that the Trinamool chief has ordered the Kolkata Police to find out the background details of the people who raised the chants at her convoy at North 24, Parganas on Thursday.
As per sources, Mamata Banerjee wants to know whether the people raising the 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans are outsiders. She has further asked the police to find out the places in Bengal where the sloganeers are residing and figure out the areas in the state where she can run into them during her movement, sources said.
