Chinese envoy hails Jaishankar-Wang consensus as 'political impetus' to ease LAC situation

Chinese envoy to India Sun Weidong said that the two nations can overcome their difficulties by implementing the consensus reached by the Foreign Ministers.

On Monday, Chinese envoy to India Sun Weidong opined that two nations can overcome ir difficulties by earnestly implementing consensus reached by respective Foreign Ministers. He mentioned that 5-point consensus reached by S Jaishankar and Wang Yi was a step in right direction, providing political impetus to ease border situation. He observed that India and China are t threats but cooperation partners.

Maintaining that challenge is to fight COVID-19 pandemic, revive ecomy and improve people's livelihoods, Weidong stressed need for mutual trust between India and China. On an unpleasant te, he again parroted PLA's false claim that Indian Army h opened fire. Chinese Ambassor to India said it was imperative to immediately stop provocations such as firing and or "dangerous actions". According to him, Chinese side supported enhanced dialogue between frontier troops on both countries to solve specific issues.

Jaishankar's meeting with Wang Yi

LAC faceoff was exacerbated when 20 Indian Army soldiers including a Commanding Officer were martyred in Galwan Valley on June 15 when de-escalation process was underway. This was followed by multiple attempts of provocation by Chinese side at end of August. On September 10, EAM held a discussion with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on  sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. As per Ministry of External Affairs, y agreed on hering to consensus of ir respective leers on developing bilateral ties and t allowing differences to become disputes. Maintaining that current situation in border areas was t in interest of eir side, y stressed that troops of both nations should continue talks and quickly diseng.

Agreeing to follow existing protocols, Foreign Ministers observed that it was necessary to avoid any action to furr escalate matters. Moreover, y reposed confidence in continuation of communication through Special Representatives and meetings of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China border affairs. y formed a consensus on concluding new Confidence Building Measures to enhance peace in border areas after easing of present faceoff.
