Indian Ambassador to Madagascar, Abhay Kumar, met Comoros President Azali Assoumani on September 12, and held talks to bolster bilateral relations between New Delhi and Moroni. The Indian Embassy in Comoros tweeted "Ambassador Abhay Kumar had the honour of meeting Azali Assoumani, President of Comoros today to review the progress in bilateral relations between India and Comoros and ways to further strengthen it."
Kumar and Azali met each other for the second time in the last four months. Both nations have always enjoyed close and friendly relations and have similar views on regional and global issues.

About Comoros
Comoros is a stretch of islands in the Indian Ocean which is located at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel. Comoros is a member of the International Solar Alliance and supports India's bid to gain permanent membership at the UN Security Council.

Both the nations have their honorary consulates at each other capital cities ie New Delhi and Moroni. India and Comoros established diplomatic ties on June 1976. Comoros became the 20th member of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), where India was a founding member at an IORA meeting held in Gurgaon on November 2012.

India-Comoros Relationship
There were several high-level diplomatic meetings held between both nations. Comorian Minister of External Relations & Cooperation Souef Mohamed El-Amine visited India in August 2004. President Ahmed Abdullah Mohamed Sambi visited India in November 2007. President Ikililou Dhoinine attended the third India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi in October 2015. He held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29 October. The bilateral trade between both the nations totalled US$ 29.06 million in 2014-15 growing from $20.29 million in the previous fiscal.
