Congress-AIUDF officially join hands for Rajya Sabha polls in Assam

Congress and AIUDF, once considered arch-rivals for encroaching over each or's vote banks have w joined hands for upcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Assam. Congress and AIUDF have jointly fielded eminent Journalist of State Ajit Bhuyan.
Addressing a joint press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday afteron, leadership of both parties anunced Ajit Bhuyan's name as ir consensual candidate. It has been learnt that Bhuyan approached both parties separately as debate over one seat grew louder and louder in State.

Bhuyan, kwn for his strong anti-establishment views, has also been vocal against Citizenship Amendment Act. He had actively participated in anti-CAA meetings and re had been talks in anti-CAA camp for Bhuyan's candidature.

However, Bhuyan backed by AIUDF and Congress has also landed himself in trouble because of strong criticism from various sections who had been alleging that AIUDF and Congress party have always been soft on illegal influx from Bangladesh because of vote bank politics.

Even though alliance of AIUDF and Congress have clear numbers to send one representative to Upper House, chances of cross-voting cant be ruled out at all.
Meanwhile, BJP and allies BPF and AGP have minated Biswajit Daimary, sitting MP of Rajya Sabha. Daimary filed his mination papers on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sowal, NEDA Convener Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, BPF Chief Hagrama Mohilary and AGP president Atul Bora.

On or hand, NDA alliance has named former Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita as ir candidate for ar vacant seat. Kalita resigned from Congress over difference on Citizenship Amendment Act and he resigned from Upper House, strongly criticizing party he was associated with for more than four decades for its opposition to CAA. He is yet to file his mination papers.

BJP or its allies have however t yet named anyone for third seat.
