Congress fires salvo at CM Yediyurappa: 'Person who can't support farmers is of no use'

dressing a protest rally in Bengaluru on Monday, Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed Karnataka government and Centre over farm legislation. A number of farmer organizations spearheed by Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha called for a statewide shutdown to protest against amendment to Karnataka Land Reforms Act and APMC Act. Earlier in day, protests were held at several locations in Bengaluru, Mandya, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Ballari, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Belagavi, Uttara Kanna and Udupi among or districts.
Disputing claim that BJP government was in interest of farmers, he questioned why farmers have given shutdown call. Referring to pass of Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, he highlighted that crores of farmers across country are protesting on streets. According to him, BJP's attempt to misle farmers would t succeed.

Congress leer Randeep Surjewala remarked, "re is a saying- A person who cant support farmers is of use. This saying is applicable to Modi & Yediyurappa. PM said that I am working for interests of farmers, which was also seconded by Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa. If you working for interests of farmers, n why have farmers shut down Karnataka? Why are 62 crore farmers in an agitation mode? Why are y are on ros? Are we fools and is only Modi and Yediyurappa intelligent? attempt to misguide farmers will never be successful."

Karnataka Land Reforms (Second Amendment) Bill, 2020 lifts restrictions on purchasing agricultural land in state, allowing any person to purchase it. opposition to bill is based on premise that large corporates would buy land in bulk, which would be detrimental to farm ecomy. On or hand, certain sections of APMC Act have been repealed to permit private players to directly buy agriculture produce from farmers.
protesters have alleged that farmers will be deprived of Minimum Support Price, aiding multinational companies to procure produce at ir rates. Meanwhile, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa expressed willingness to talk to farmer leers regarding se amendments. Clarifying that state government was t shutting down APMCs, he dismissed opposition's allegations.
