Congress urges Education Minister to revisit CBSE decision to hold exhibition on Partition

In a letter written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Congress leader Manickam Tagore has appealed to the board to withdraw the decision.

Congress has urged Union Education Minister Dharmendra Prhan to revisit Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) decision to hold exhibitions on mes related to Partition of nation.

Congress leer Manickam Tagore said that he has written to Education Minister Dharmendra Prhan, requesting him to withdraw decision taken by CBSE to organise exhibitions on Partition mes in CBSE schools, expressing concern that such exhibitions might invertently sow seeds of hatred in young minds and disrupt social harmony.

In a formal letter dated August 21, Tagore, who represents Tamil Nu's Virudhunagar constituency, implored Prhan to reconsider board’s plan. He underscored need to approach this sensitive historical subject with care, considering delicate nature of impressionable young minds.

“I express my concern towards decision me by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regarding organisation of exhibitions on me of ‘Partition’ in schools. I earnestly urge you to reconsider and withdraw this decision so as not to spre hatred among minds of our younger generations and to preserve social harmony of our society,” res Tagore’s letter.

Tagore acknowledged significance of remembering and learning from historical events, particularly those as significant as partition, but he vocated for a presentation that fosters understanding, compassion and unity among youth. He emphasised that while it is crucial to remember bloodshed and atrocities of that era, manner in which se events are portrayed should promote positive emotions and a sense of unity rar than negativity and division.

In his letter, Tagore stressed critical role of education system in shaping minds of next generation positively, encouraging m to embrace diversity and contribute constructively to nation's progress.

Congress leer noted that board’s objective should be to inform students about history while equipping m to positively contribute to unity, harmony and progress of country.

Last year, Union government h declared August 14 as annual Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, encouraging educational institutions to commemorate occasion. CBSE's recent circular emphasised sensitive nature of subject and urged that any exhibition on topic be approached with appropriate sobriety and solemnity.
