Derek O'Brien tears rule-book and yanks RS chair's mic; Congress in 'party of dalals' row

After ruckus over pass of farm reform ordinances in Lok Sabha, Opposition launched a high-intensity attack on Centre in Rajya Sabha on Sunday as bills were tabled for discussion in upper house.
Opposing bills, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien targeted Centre and reminded Centre of its promise of doubling farmers' income by 2022.

"PM said that Opposition is misleading farmers. You (Centre) said double farmer income by 2022. But, at current rates, farmer income will t be doubled before 2028. Your credibility is low to make promises," O'Brien said in Rajya Sabha while speaking about agriculture bills.
Later, in a shocking incident, Derek O'Brien marched up to well of house and tore papers and mic off house Chair.

Meanwhile, DMK MP TKS Elangovan said that Farmers who contribute at least 20% to total GDP of country will be made slaves by se Bills. It will kill farmers and make m a commodity, he contended.
Congress MPs were outrd when USRCP MP VV Reddy backed bill and said that re was reason for Congress to oppose bills, adding that Congress is a party of 'Dalals' (middlemen). He seemingly said that to take a jibe on Congress as bills seek to end mechanism of middlemen in agricultural sector where farmers need be dependant on middlemen to sell ir produce, however, y would have option to seek middlemen if y wish to.

Congress MP Anand Sharma demanded an apology from Reddy over his statement on Congress. To which speaker Venkaiah Naidu said Reddy's statement will t go on record.
K K Rsh (CPI), Derek O'Brien (TMC), Trichi Siva (DMK) and K C Venugopal (Congress) moved resolutions for sending two bills to a select committee of House for consideration before y are taken up for pass.

MSP to continue
Opposing bills, Congress leaders had alleged in past few days that se bills will kill Minimum Support Price (MSP) system due to which farmers will cease to get minimum price for ir produce, moreover, y alleged that sector will be dominated by Corporates, hurting interests of farmers.

However, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar defended Bills in Rajya Sabha and asserted that MSP mechanism will continue and will t be impacted by two legislations. Tomar during his Lok Sabha address had also assured that se new legislations would t encroach upon Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Acts of states.
