Digvijaya Singh flays Centre over farm bills, offers advice for JJP's Dushyant Chautala

Welcoming Harsimrat Kaur Bal's resignation from Union Cabinet, senior Congress leer Digvijaya Singh on Friday warned Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala against supporting BJP on 3 farm bills. He was referring to pass of Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 in Lok Sabha. Rajya Sabha called upon JJP leer to back interest of farmers, failing which he would suffer a big defeat in future.
He mentioned that Congress government h enacted Agricultural Produce Market Committee Act for benefit of farmers. Congress leer ded that it was necessary to look at three bills in totality. According to him, only big trers stand to gain owing to Centre's legislation.

What are farm bills?
aforesaid bills were introduced by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to replace three ordinances promulgated on June 5. As per Centre, Essential Commodities Act, 1955 was amended to ensure that farmers get a good price on many commodities. Items such as food grains, oil, dal, pulses, potato have been removed from purview of this Act.

Meanwhile, Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 aims at freeing farmers from constraints of state Agriculture Produce Market Committees whereby y would be able to sell ir produce anywhere. On or hand, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 protects and empowers farmers to eng with processors, wholesalers, large retailers, exporters for farm services. Three main political parties in Punjab- Congress, AAP and Shiromani Akali Dal have united against se bills.

Bal outlines reasons for resignation
In her resignation letter, Harsimrat Kaur Bal maintained that it was impossible for her to perform her duties as a Union Minister as S could t go against interest of farmers. She lamented that Centre did t take farmers on board despite her best attempt to persue Union Cabinet in this regard. S wanted bills concerning marketing of farmers' produce to be referred to a Select Committee. Bal stated that her decision to resign was guided by trition of her party to always defend national interest.
