Discontent in Delhi BJP over minority community members from Shaheen Bagh joining party

A section of Delhi BJP leaders has expressed "displeasure" over the recent joining of some members of a minority community from the Shaheen Bagh area in the city.

A section of Delhi BJP leers has expressed "displeasure" over recent joining of some members of a mirity community from Shaheen Bagh area in city. Delhi BJP president esh Gupta, who was present at joining programme at party office on Sunday, was t available for a comment. Shaheen Bagh was epicentre of anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act(CAA) protests in city earlier this year.

" joinings put party in a spot t only because area was an anti-CAA protest venue, but also because it is being linked to February riots in rast Delhi," a top Delhi BJP leer said.

Ar leer claimed that joinings have t gone down well with central leership of saffron party.

"Some senior Delhi BJP functionaries were called by national leership to warn against such a political blunder in future. y were irked that sensitive issue was t brought to ir tice beforehand," he said.

Delhi BJP leer Nighat Abbas, who was instrumental behind joinings, said she was t aware of any complaints from anyone, including senior state or national leers, in this regard.

"I do t kw that central leership has expressed its displeasure over joinings. Those who called me only congratulated me for it," she said.

Abbas said some of persons who joined BJP took part in anti-CAA protest at Shaheen Bagh, while some opposed new citizenship law but did t take part in stir.

"Those who joined party finally came to realise that y were being misguided in name of CAA as it has thing to do with citizens of India. BJP is a big family where everyone is welcome," she said.

Aam Ami Party (AAP) h launched a sharp attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of "scripting" anti-CAA protest at Shaheen Bagh with an eye on Assembly polls in February.
