Reportedly, several Congress leers wrote to Congress president on August 12 calling for sweeping changes in party's functioning. 23 leers who have signed letter are Leer of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Az, Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor, Vivek Tankha, M Veerappa Moily, Mukul Wasnik, Jitin Prasa, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Prithviraj Chavan, PJ Kurian, Ajay Singh, Renuka Chaudhary, Milind Deora, Sandeep Dixit, Raj Babbar, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Kaul Singh Thakur, Akhilesh Pras Singh, former Haryana Speaker Kuldeep Sharma and former Delhi Speaker Yoganand Shastri.

As per sources, 4 senior Congress leers logged off from CWC meeting in protest against former party president's remarks. Sources revealed that Rahul Gandhi's camp has said that details of letter should t have been released to media. It has also been alleged that 23 dissenting members “betrayed” Congress by going to media. After Ghulam Nabi Az and Kapil Az took objection to Gandhi's allegation, Congress went into dam control mode. According to sources, Wayan MP spoke to Sibal after which latter decided to withdraw his tweet.
