DMK questions Rajinikanth's silence after police heavy-handedness against anti-CAA stir

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Senthilkumar has called on actor Rajinikanth to call out alleged brutality against mirities by state government. His comments come after Chennai police broke into a scuffle with protestors on Friday evening.

'We welcomed you, we can throw you out'

In a tweet, Senthilkumar said that superstar had earlier said that if Muslims in country face an issue because of CAA, n he will be fist on to speak up and w that police has taken action against Muslims, where is he? Senthilkumar added that state and its people had opened gates for him, which helped him to flourish in his acting career, but will t hesitate to close gates on him.

Earlier in February, Rajinikanth was quoted by news ncy PTI saying that Muslims are t affected by controversial law and that he will stand up for community if y face any issue. "Citizenship Amendment Act will t affect any citizen of our country. If it affects Muslims, n I will be first person to stand up for m. How will Muslims who chose to stay back in India following partition be sent out of country?"

police detained over 100 protesters after a scuffle with m during a demonstration against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) at Washermanpet in Chennai on evening of February 14. protestors were raising slogans against CAA and NRC during protests.

Hundreds of protestors had gared in Washermanpet in Chennai on Friday evening. Police excess allegedly began earlier, leading to several injuries amongst protesters.

incident on Friday led to sporadic protests across Tamil Nadu, including at Washermanpet in city, where violence erupted, but protesters subsequently called off agitation, following talks with City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan. Four police personnel a woman joint commissioner, two women constables, and a sub-inspector were injured in stone-pelting, police said, even as reports emerged that some protesters were also hurt. Joint Commissioner P Vijayakumari sustained injuries on her head, police said, adding that those wounded were admitted to a hospital.

Earlier, DMK President MK Stalin and MP Kanimozhi condemned incident and called for a probe on police brutality. Kanimozhi said that police mishandled situation and said that JC rth Kapilkumar Saratkar mishandled situation and should be immediately suspended.
