Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President MK Stalin said that action taken against protesters by Tamil Nadu government is incorrect and called on police to release protestors. MP Kanimozhi also slammed police for mishandling situation.

DMK calls for a probe
Stalin said that party condemned Edappadi government's police crackdown on night of February 14. He claimed that it was a deliberate attack on people who fought peacefully against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and urged authorities to release detainees and have ir cases be withdrawn.
Earlier, Thoothukkudi MP Kanimozhi said that police had mishandled situation and called for a probe on clashes. In a Facebook post on Saturday afteron, she said, " JC rth Kapilkumar Saratkar IPS mishandled situation which led to violence. Mr.Kapilkumar was DIG when Thoothukudi firing took place." She added that he should have been posted in a less sensitive region, but was rewarded with a JC post. She said that Saratkar was squarely responsible for yesterday’s violence in Washermenpet" and should be immediately suspended.

Hundreds of protestors had gared in Washermanpet in Chennai on Friday evening. Police excess allegedly began earlier on Friday evening, leading to several injuries amongst protesters.

incident on Friday led to sporadic protests across Tamil Nadu, including at Washermanpet in city, where violence erupted, but protesters subsequently called off agitation, following talks with City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan. Four police personnel, a woman joint commissioner, two women constables and a sub-inspector were injured in stone-pelting, police said, even as reports emerged that some protesters were also hurt. Joint Commissioner P Vijayakumari sustained injuries on her head, police said, adding that those wounded were admitted to a hospital.
