'Nation is delighted:' HM Amit Shah welcomes SC's order allowing Jagannath Rath Yatra

Taking to Twitter, Amit Shah praised PM Modi for understanding and initiating consultations to ensure that the country's great traditions are observed

Welcoming Supreme Court's order allowing Jagannath Rath Yatra to take place this year, Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated people of Odisha and expressed that entire nation is delighted with decision. Taking to Twitter, Home Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for understanding and initiating consultations to ensure that country's great tritions are observed. 

Shah also informed that as per PM Modi's instruction, he spoke with Gajapati Maharaj and Shankracharya of Puri and sought ir views on Yatra. Home Minister also stated that he spoke with Solicitor General as well before apex court's hearing on Monday. "Considering urgency and importance of matter, it was placed in front of a vacation bench of Supreme Court and hearing took place this afteron, which paved way for important decision by SC," Shah said.

SC allows Jagannath Rath Yatra

A Supreme Court bench heed by CJI Shar Arvind Bobde allowed Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra to take place in Puri, Odisha on June 23. However, SC has stipulated certain conditions in this regard. It asked Centre, state government and Temple committee to work in tandem to conduct Rath Yatra.

Moreover, apex court emphasised that re would be compromise on health of people amid COVID-19 outbreak. It also empowered Odisha government to stop Yatra in case of a public health emergency. About 10-12 lakh devotees usually gar for Rath Yatra.
