Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh chairs meeting with Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states in New Delhi, discusses agendas to be raised with PM Modi in Niti Aayog meeting

In yet another move after the poll debacle of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to meet the chief ministers of all the Congress-ruled state on Saturday, June 15, as per sources.

In yet another move after the poll debacle of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with the chief ministers of all the Congress-ruled state on Saturday, June 15. The agenda discussed in the meeting was the points to raise in Niti Aayog's meeting scheduled later in the day.

While all the state chief ministers except K Chandrashekhar Rao of Telangana and Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal will be attending the Niti Aayog's meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 15 in the national capital, Congress decided the agendas to be raised for its ruled state in the meeting.

All the chief minister namely Kamal Nath of Madhya Pradesh, Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan except Captain Amarinder Singh of Punjab was present in the meet. Captain Amarinder Singh missed the meeting due to illness. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel also joined later.  Chief Minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy also attended the meeting. They discussed the proposed agenda of Congress and Congress allies governed states to be taken up with PM in today’s Niti Aayog Meeting.

Meanwhile, following the embarrassing defeat of the Congress in Lok Sabha elections, Congress General Secretary of UP East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also set to meet ground-level workers from Eastern Uttar Pradesh two days a week in New Delhi, with the aim to strengthen the party ahead of the crucial UP Assembly elections in 2022. As per schedule, she will be interacting with Congress party workers between 10 am to 1 pm every Tuesday and Thursday. The party workers are allowed to meet Priyanka without any formal appointment.

Furthermore, in order to connect with the grass-root level workers, she will also visit the state and a blueprint of the visit is being worked upon. It is expected that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will try to get a sense of Congress' organisational conditions on the ground and figure out where the party failed in the state in 2019 elections. As per sources, two such meetings have already taken place.

Moreover, the party workers of Uttar Pradesh on June 13 had also demanded that Congress should project Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as CM face ahead of Assembly election in the state.
