From ban on live streaming to voting procedure:Congress cries foul over Manipur trust vote

A day after the BJP-led government in Manipur won the confidence motion by a voice vote, the Congress party on Tuesday termed it as a "murder of democracy".

A day after BJP-led government in Manipur won confidence motion by a voice vote, Congress party on Tuesday termed it as a "murder of democracy". First, it slammed  Assembly Speaker's decision to reject opposition MLAs' demand for conducting trust vote by division of votes. It also questioned ban on live streaming of trust vote proceedings. 

Moreover, Congress lamented that Manipur government h t designated an entire day for a discussion on COVID-19 crisis. party accused BJP of destroying democracy inside "temple of democracy".  It affirmed that people would t forgive BJP for allegedly trampling upon established democratic conventions.

Trust vote proceedings

N Biren Singh-led government's victory on  floor of Assembly brought to an end political uncertainty prevailing in state since June 17, when 9 MLAs including Deputy CM withdrew support to BJP government. 8 out of 24 Congress MLAs stayed away from Assembly proceedings despite party issuing a whip to vote against trust motion moved by Chief Minister. government was supported by 28 members including 4 NPP MLAs on floor of  Assembly.

Meanwhile, two Congress legislators Th Lokeshwar and Mirabai Devi reportedly threw chairs and benches in Assembly alleging that confidence motion was t conducted properly. Expressing his joy, Manipur CM's visor Rajat Sethi observed that Congress party's "devious plan" to destabilize government h failed. In a major jolt, 6 out of 8 abstaining Congress MLAs submitted ir resignations to Speaker on same day.

Legislators Henry Singh, Oinam Lukhoi, Md Abdul Nasir, Paonam Brojen, Ngamthang Haokip, and Ginsuanhau cited lack of trust in leership of Okram Ibobi Singh. y blamed him for failure in forming government in state despite being single-largest party in Assembly. If Speaker accepts resignation of aforesaid MLAs, effective strength of Manipur Assembly shall drop to 47.
