GONE AGAIN: Rahul Gandhi on 'meditation visit', will skip Cong protest

Sharing details of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi's second abroad trip since being re-elected, Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, on Wednesday stated that Rahul Gandhi had gone on a 'meditational visit', addressing a press conference in Delhi. He stated that the Congress' scheduled press conferences against the Centre addressing the economic slowdown was drafted as per Gandhi's direction. Surjewala added that Rahul Gandhi is known to take such trips from time-to-time. Sources report that neither Congress chief Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi will be present during the protests.

Rahul Gandhi's 2nd abroad trip

Earlier in the day, sources reported that the Wayanad MP had left abroad on Monday, ahead of the party's planned 35 press conferences from November 1-8, to protest against the economic slowdown. Gandhi's visit is scheduled for a week and he will come back to India in the first week of November, as per ANI. Rahul Gandhi will reportedly join the scheduled protests in November.

Congress 'economic slowdown' protests

Congress is scheduled to hold 35 press conferences between November 1 and November 8. Meanwhile, the protests will be held between November 5 and November 15 against the anti-economic policies and decisions of PM Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. Senior party leaders are also scheduled to address these press conferences whereas a massive show has been planned in Delhi where other parties have also been invited.

Rahul Gandhi's Bangkok trip

Previously on October 5, adding to the turmoil in the Grand Old Party the former party president left for Bangkok in the wake of the Congress being split into two camps - Sonia Gandhi's supporters and Rahul Gandhi's supporters ahead of the Maharashtra and Haryana state Assembly polls. Prior to Gandhi's Bangkok trip, on the same day, former Haryana chief Ashok Tanwar resigned from the party amid reports of a tussle between Tanwar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Inspite of the internal turmoil, Congress has made a comeback winning 31 seats in the 90-seat Assembly. But the BJP-JJP-Independents allied to form the next Haryana Government.
