Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Saturday claimed that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has acknowledged that in future if speaking computers becomes a reality, it would be primarily due to the contribution of Sanskrit, the world's only scientific language. Addressing the students at IIT Bombay on Saturday he also said that atoms were discovered by Charaka Rishi.

"According to NASA in the near future if a talking computer were to be a reality, then it will only be possible because of Sanskrit. NASA is saying this because Sanskrit is a scientific language in which words are written exactly the way they are spoken," Pokhriyal said while addressing students at IIT-Bombay at the institute's 57th convocation ceremony.

The HRD minister also claimed that Charaka Rishi, hailed as one of the principal contributors of Ayurveda, was the first person who researched and discovered atoms and molecules."Who conducted research on atoms and molecules? Charaka Rishi was the one who researched atoms and molecules, discovered them," he said. The minister also claimed that ancient physician Sushruta was the world's first surgeon.

While India conducted nuclear test in the year 1974 and 1998, Pokhriyal who is also former Uttarakhand chief minister said, "Today we are talking about nuclear tests. Lakhs of years ago, Sage Kanad had conducted a nuclear test. Our knowledge and science do not lack anything," Nishank told Parliament. Nishank has in number of ocassions also batted for astrology, saying it is the topmost science in the world. He said our ancient astrologers dwarfed all other sciences.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank retained the seat, defeating Ambrish Kumar of the Congress by a bigger margin of 2.59 lakh votes. He has been elected to the state assembly five times, first in undivided Uttar Pradesh and later Uttarakhand from 1991 to 2014. He is also a prolific Hindi writer with 36 works to his credit, of which 10 have been translated into other languages. His works include novels, short stories, poems and travelogues. He holds a PhD degree from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. He is said to be close to BJP president Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari.
