In Rajasthan's Dungarpur, Congress & BJP join hands to keep BTP out of power in Zila polls

In Rajasthan's Dungarpur, Cong & BJP Zila Parishad members have joined hands to defeat a Zila Pramukh candidate supported by the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP).

Even as Congress and BJP leave stone unturned to attack each or on scores of issues, Rajasthan's Dungarpur Zila Parishad members have joined hands to defeat a Zila Pramukh candidate supported by Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP). In recent elections, BTP-backed Independents won 13 seats in Dungarpur Zila Parishad, while BJP won 8 seats, Congress won 6 seats. Thus, in order to keep BTP-backed Parwati Doda out of power, Congress and BJP toger voted for Surya Ahari - a BJP member who contested as an Independent.

BTP founder Chhotubhai Vasava slammed both parties for coming toger and soon after his tweet, “Congress BJP ek hai" (BJP and Congress are one) started trending on Twitter. He also wished PM Modi and CM Ashok Gehlot on ir “newfound alliance”.

Cong suffers blow in Rajasthan panchayat polls 

ruling Congress in Rajasthan suffered a jolt with BJP beating it in panchayat elections, an outcome which winning party on Wednesday called a farmers' mandate amid protests against Centre's new agri-marketing laws. BJP bagged 1,989 of 4,371 panchayat samiti seats while Congress won 1852 with almost all results of four-phase local government polls being declared. CPI (M) bagged 26 seats, RLP six and Bahujan Samaj Party five. Independent candidates won 439 panchayat samiti seats.

At zila parishad level, BJP candidates won 353 of 635 seats for which results were declared and Congress got 252. Only one zila parishad seat result is yet to be anunced in election held across 21 of state's 33 districts. BJP candidates are w in majority in 13 of se district boards and party is set to head one more with help of ally Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP). Congress has won five of remaining zila parishads.
