In a huge development, seven months after abrogation of Article 370, government has decided to revoke detention order of National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah. Abdullah and or J&K leers were placed under preventive detention on August 5 last year ahe of abrogation of special status of erstwhile state. On following September, government slapped NC patron with Public Safety Act and extended it for three more months on December 16.
Rohit Kansal, principal secretary of Planning, Development and Monitoring Department of Jammu Kashmir, posted a letter on Twitter on Friday, stating government order. order said that government has decided to revoke PSA imposed on senior Abdullah with immediate effect.

Kashmir leers in detention
Earlier on February 6, J&K ministration slapped stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) against Mehbooba Mufti and former CM Omar Abdullah, reportedly a day before ir detention was supposed to end. Previously on December 14, Omar's far Farooq Abdullah's detention was extended by ar three months by Jammu-Kashmir ministration. On Friday, Supreme Court has issued a tice to ministration on a plea by Abdullah's sister - Sara Pilot challenging Omar's detention.

Under Public Safety Act, an individual can be detained for up to two years, without a trial. Incidentally, act was introduced by Farooq Abdullah's far, Sheikh Abdullah in 1978. Despite being detained under Public Safety Act, oddly, 81-year-old mainstream politician was recently included in a 21-member consultative committee on defense by government.

Current Kashmir situation
While several mir politicians have been released in a phased manner by ministration, political leers Ali Mohammed Sagar, Naeem Akhtar, Sartaj Mani, and Hilal Lone have been charged under PSA along with Omar Abdullah and Mufti. Meanwhile, former PDP minister Altaf Bukhari-led 'new political front' comprising of senior political leers, acemics, legal luminaries, activists is set to meet PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to demand restoration of statehood and domicile rights. Since revocation of Article 370 and bifurcation of State into two Union Territories, state is under lockdown. Though markets and ro transport has been improving, locals are still being targetted by terrorists. Centre has stated that train services, hospitals and or services have resumed rmally.
